Prague
Is the capital of the Czech Republic. This largest town of the state is situated in the middle of Bohemia. Very rich history of this town started in 9th century under the rule of princes of family Premysl. This old town is sometimes called "golden Prague" or "town of hundred towers". Today appearance of this city was formed during eleven centuries. A lot of building from Romanesque style through Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque to the modern styles of 20th century play their part in the special charm of this city, that welcomes thousands of visitors from all over the world aech year.
The town dominant certainly is the Prague Castle called Hradcany on the left side of the river Vltava. Bohemian kings lived here, now the president of the Republic has his seat here. The heart of the castle is the Gothic cathedral of St. Vitus with its typical skyline.
The king Charles IV, Vladislav OF Jagello and Rudolphus II formed the appearance of the town in the most expressive way. The important setting-up was made in the time of rising independent Czechoslovakia and so called The First Republic from 1918 to 1939, as well.
But tourists like to visit other interesting places: the Bethlehem Chapel, Jewish cemetery, Charles Bridge, Old Town square with the well known tower-clock, historical Venceslas square with the building of National Museum or places and the picturesque little pubs in the Upper Town where you can drink a glass of well known Czech beer. You can rest in the newly opened Castle gardens or visit some of art galleries.
These experiences are very impressive and bring the most visitors back again. Very fastidious visitors are satisfied with the wide offering of the cultural programmes during the whole year. International festivals of music and films are held here and the programmes of Prague theatres are interesting too. A lot of museums and exhibitions - well known with its high quality - lure wisitors, too.
If you are interested in sports, you can see a lot of hockey, football and basketball matches here or tennis, athletic or swimming competitions. Some of them are European or world championships.
Prague offers other places of interest: the view-tower, zoo, the observatory, the Mirrir Labyrinth, etc.There is a vivid political and commercial life. Here you can find the highest Czech banks as well as foreigner ones and embassies of the most countries of the world. Of course, the parliament, the senate and the government have their seats here, too. Prague - "mother of towns" - is beautiful and attractive in each time of the year.
